INDUSTRIAL PLACEMENT
On the first day of my placement, I was not made do much, I was set up with a company laptop, email, cloud storage etc, and I observed what the Project Team did on a day to day basis. This was to give me a good understanding of what I would be doing myself in the coming weeks. One month in to my placement, I was comfortably working on the main project with the team and I was getting my first taste of what it is like to work in the software industry. I had test cases that were to be completed daily as well as some other small tasks assigned to me by the supervisor.Three months from the start of my placement, I had attained much experience on working with the main project and had completed a few small side projects within my work placement. I was happy with all the exposure I was given so far, and I attempted to show great initiative in all the tasks in which I was given. I was also more reliable to the Project Team and struggled less in my day to day duties.

The technical placement role assigned to me is QA Engineer. The typical duties of a QA Engineer at DPD Ireland are testing ongoing projects, logging new bugs, testing ongoing bugs until they are patched by an updated release, giving updates on progress at the start or end of each day to a project manager. Each QA Engineer on the team must test on a certain platform/browser to ensure that the application beingtested will function as intended for all sorts of users. My typical day consisted of typingup a bug report on all opened/closed bugs from the day before and presenting this report to my supervisor. Then, I installed the new release of the application being tested and begin executing my assigned test cases. Once my test cases were complete, I moved on to any open bugs that were to be tested in the latest release and attempted to replicate them to see if said bugs could be closed or remain opened.
More information about these roles can be read on my CV or LinkedIn.
